Meaning of the badge

The badge incorporates the essential values of Basse-Normandie:

  • At the top of the badge, we can see the two leopards on a red background: These two leopards on a red background represent the flag of Normandy.
  • Below, we can deduce a blue background: This recalls that Basse-Normandie is established on a very vast coast stretching from Mont-Saint-Michel to Honfleur.
  • On this blue background, there is the Mont-Saint-Michel, a wave and a horse: It reminds that the Mont-Saint-Michel is recently redefined an island and it reminds the famous legend of the sea which advances at speed of a galloping horse. This horse is also the symbol of the Orne (department renowned for equestrian courses).
  • Below everything, we can see an apple on a green background: The green background represents rich land and the apple represents cider created in Calvados.
